33 Seconds

Based on the incredible scene I witnessed last night — our first night in this house on its own island, in an inlet off of Frenchman Bay, directly across from Bar Harbor, ME.

It was dusk. I was sitting in the loveseat on the west side of the house. First, I sat facing the northwest, sinking into serenity as I gazed out the windows at the setting Sun. A regal parting — Good night, Your Majesty — I almost felt compelled to bow.

Then — while still in that magical moment of time when the skies host both the fading oranges of one luminary and the deepening indigos surrounding paleness of the other — I turned myself around to gaze out the windows facing the southeast, to watch the Waxing Gibbous Moon rise. With Cadillac Mountain as its backdrop, I felt humbled and in awe, and was compelled to chant the Moon verse of an ancient Vedic hymn, Navagraha-Suktam.

And suddenly… I was granted a breathtaking experience: witness to the natural food chain in action. Captured in a 33-second video from my iPhone camera right out that northwest window. And by the time 24 hours had passed, into a 33-word poem:

To that majestic Moon that started it all…
